Wednesday 25 January - Burns Night
'Historic Scotland' -
After breakfast, served from 8am, we will travel to the spectacular Fort George. Built in 1747 in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden, the fort is the finest example of 18th-century military engineering on the British Isles and remains virtually unaltered today. We will be escorted around the fort in a private tour by a member of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment). Standing beside the Moray Firth, at Ardersier, the fort offers magnificent views across the water - look out in to the estuary and you may be lucky enough to see a school of Dolphins.
We then head back to Inverness for a light lunch at the Michelin star restaurant, The Boath House, before travelling to the site of the Battle of Culloden in 1745. Our resident Highland storyteller, Ray Owens, will bring the history and the scenes of the last battle ever to be fought on British soil to life. On our return to Aldourie castle, we will be welcomed by a Highland Piper and afternoon tea.
In the evening we will be treated to a special Burns Night Supper, complete with address of the haggis and whisky toast, following which we will dance the night away with a traditional Scottish Ceilidh band.
